TBT…on a Sunday…

I have been meaning to write this post for a while, well since Thursday, to do a bit of housekeeping and document my next quilt. This post is a bit longer than usual, but if you keep scrolling you will be rewarded with some quilty eye candy.

I participated in a blog critique through the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Group. Discussions have been completed and changes have been made. The gals that I worked with were more than wonderful and I thank them very much.

Also, a group name has been decided upon as well as a button design for our hive participating in the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Group. I am part of ‘The Sewcial Network’ and below is our button design (designed by Beth who blogs at Plaid and Paisley) which will now reside on my sidebar.

Now on to the quilt. This little quilt was finished in 2014 and heavily inspired by Heather Jones. I love her take on using one block but on a large scale and her quilting is divine in my opinion. The flying geese in this little quilt were the largest flying geese I have ever made and I remember feeling giddy about that at the time.

As you can see, this quilt has been loved a bit already. It has some dirt stains on the bottom and they don’t even blend into the Moda Grunge background. Life with kids I guess.

Another first for me was the spiral quilting. I have since developed some templates and have refined my start a bit. This was also the quilt where I learned I do not like dark thread over light areas on my quilts.

A pieced backing, I used what I had on hand and look at that texture.

I see that I have a tendency to put an accent color in the lower right-hand corner. I suppose though I could put that accent anywhere as this quilt is not directional, but it feels most comfortable to display it this way. Do you happen to have any design tendencies that have shown up in your work? I would love to hear what you have to say.
